Growing up can be a scary, awkward, painful time. Everything's changing all the time and everyone bigger than you acts like they know more than you. It can be pretty isolating... but that's what we make friends for! Draw or write your character making a friend for the first time. How did they meet and where? What made them become friends in the first place? What kind of things do they like doing together?

Depict your baby character with at least one other baby character.

Learning from those around you is part of life. Most of the time, you have some kind of older figure showing you the ropes, whether it be a family member, a mentor, or maybe a teacher. Maybe your character has someone like that in their life! Draw or write your character with a parent, mentor, or otherwise another figure they look up to. What's their relationship like? What kind of things do they learn from them? Are they close or is there some negative feelings or distance there?

Depict your baby character with an adult that they look up to in some way. This adult doesn't have to be on the ML.

Everyone tends to get comfortable. It's hard to break out of it and even harder when you've never even done it before! Draw or write your baby getting out of their comfort zone in some way or another! What did they decide to try to do or did they not even want to? Are they travelling to a new city, visiting a new person, or maybe exploring the surrounding nature? Did they get permission, or are they... sneaking out?

Depict your baby character experiencing something new.

Despite appearing early, learning to control your Aether abilities can be challenging, especially to young ones. It can be scary and surprising, though it tends to end up being an exciting time after adults notice. Draw or write your character trying out their new skills as they first develop. Do they struggle with these new powers or do they take to them better than their peers? Do they get help from a tutor of some sort or do they figure things out on their own, for better or worse?

Growing up, everyone makes plans and ideas for how they're going to live the rest of their lives. It's a natural process as they watch adults in their lives go about their business. What does your character think their life is going to be like? What do they want to be? Are their dreams and wishes quaint, or are they unrealistic or grand? 

Depict your baby character thinking about what it'll be like when they grow up!

It's normal to go through different hobbies and interests as you grow up. As your character grows up, they'll probably be exposed to more and more things and they'll get to play and try out more complex games and activities. What are some of the hobbies or interests that your character had as a child? They might be interested in it still as an adult, or they could've left it behind in the past!

Depict your baby character engaging with a childhood hobby of some kind!

Growing up means that you’ll have to deal with bad situations. No matter if they're big or small, when you don't have experience with them they can be scary at first! What kind of bad situation was your character in? How did they get out of it and how do they feel after? Do they have friends or family that they rely on?

Getting older, it's hard to avoid some kind of formalized education. What kind of school is your teenage character in? Do they do extra classes, just the basics, or try to avoid even that? What subjects and topics do they excel in? If they're not in traditional education, how does your character learn? What do their 'classes' look like?

Depict your teenage character learning in some way!

There are a lot of different pains that come with growing up. Changes in your body, the new emotions you don't know how to deal with, and newfound responsibility can all hurt, in some way or another. Depict your teenage character going through some of these challenges. Is their body awkward or uncomfortable? Are they maybe dealing with new problems in their relationships? Or maybe are they dealing with questions they don't know the answers to?

Depict your teenage character experiencing some kind of growing pains!

Losing friends is a natural part of growing up. It's hard to maintain friendships, especially as you grow and change. Has your teenage character lost any friendships? What caused their friendship to change or stop? Did they just drift apart naturally over time? Or did they maybe have a fight?  Or did they maybe move away and lose touch? No matter what, it can be hard to deal with! How does your character deal with this change?

Depict your teenage character losing a friend or dealing with a friendship having ended!

With age comes new responsibilities and new things that you're allowed to do. As your character grows up, surely more doors have opened up to them. Or, at least, officially opened up to them. Show your character doing something they're allowed to now! Are they excited, or is it just more dumb work? Have they been doing this earlier than they were supposed to be doing it? Or is it all new to them?

Depict your teenage character doing something that's newly allowed to them!

The nature of a teenager is to want to escape the watchful eyes of adults and the annoying demands of younger kids. It's so hard to get any privacy when it feels like no one really understands you! Ugh! How does your character deal with finding some time they can really be themself? Does your character have a secret base or a hideout? Maybe they've found refuge in their room or at a friend's place?

Depict your teenage character hiding out, whatever that means to them!

Where's the fun in always following the rules? Life's more fun when you challenge authority or get into danger! How's your character channel some of that teenage rebellion? What kinds of rules do they break? How big or small are the rules? Do they manage to not get caught or will they be facing some consequences for their actions?

Outside of school, teenagers tend to have a lot of free time. Some of them use this free time to join apprenticeships for different jobs and trades, preparing them more for adulthood in the process. What kind of apprenticeship might your character take on? Is it above the board? Are they actually interested in it or did they maybe get it for some other reason?

There aren't any real big, physical changes when Hanasei become young adults. Culturally, however, adulthood is still an important tradition. The transition from youth to adulthood isn't celebrated at their birthday, though, but when they graduate from foundational education, along with their peers and friends. Depict your Hanasei preparing for, attending, or otherwise involved in their graduation. Are they nervous? Or are they ready for the challenges ahead?

Luminae mark the transition to adulthood by their first Aether shedding. This will often be a surprise that marks joyous celebration. In Luminae culture, it's often celebrated by relatives and close friends via parties and gifts, which usually end up being handmade clothing. How is your Luminae feeling about their big change? What kinds of gifts did they end up getting? Did they have a party?

Adulthood is a big moment for Tajira. It's a mark of independence and, often, highly looked forward to. When a softshell hits 25 years old, they go through a rite in which they're allowed to make their first shell by themselves. What does your Tajira feel about this? Are they confident as they go in? What does the shell they make for themself look like? Are they proud?
